The philosophy behind both Stingrays was to install powerful, MBT-class 105 mm rifled cannon on a light, mobile and – most importantly – affordable chassis. Stingray 2 featured a new turret with improved frontal protection as well as an upgraded Fire Control System by General Dynamics, derived from the one used on the later Abrams tanks. A single prototype was built in 1996 but, despite its qualities, the vehicle was never a commercial success because the market became flooded with Cold War surplus. Marketing continued until roughly 2003 when the tank was finally retired. ==Vehicle Traits== *Stealthy: This vehicle does not lose any camouflage when moving at any speed, which is handy primarily for scouting. *HESH Rounds: This vehicle can fire special Squash Head rounds. These are extremely effective against angled armor that is typical for Soviet tanks. *Ready Rack: This vehicle features a Ready Rack, which consists of several easily accessible rounds. It can fire several rounds in rapid succession, after which the reload time increases.
