  • HESH: can even penetrate armor with large hit angles

Player Recommendations

Fast and well-camouflaged, the Leopard 1 is a lightly armored but well-armed MBT, capable of providing long range firepower and maneuvering quickly to avoid return fire. Potential owners should know that it needs to be played more like a light tank than a typical MBT, to ensure survival on the battlefield.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Excellent gun depression
  • Accurate
  • Highly mobile for an MBT

Cons

  • Poor armor

Upgrade Suggestions

As survival is dependent on the vehicle’s mobility and firepower, upgrades should focus on these. Upgrading to the Improved Fire Control System, Improved Gun Stabilizer, and Improved Ready Racks, along with the better ammunition, will improve firepower against targets, while minimizing exposure to enemy firepower.

Retrofit Suggestions

  • Advanced Muzzle Reference System
  • Improved Telescopic Lens
  • Improved Gun Breech
  • Improved Pioneer Tool Kit

Commander and Crew Skill Suggestions

  • Commander: Juan Carlos, to improve the aim speed and crew stats.
  • Driver: Spin to Win, Off-Road Driving
  • Gunner: Sharpshooter, Do the Twist
  • Loader: Rapid Fire, Explosive Shells/Preparation

Created in an era where advancements in HEAT penetration made the armor race appear nonviable, the Leopard instead focuses on its gun and mobility, being only lightly armored to defend against heavy auto-cannons rather than opposing tank shells.

History

Designed by Germany, the Leopard 1 is built with firepower and mobility in mind. With production starting in 1964, over 4,500 units were built until it was phased out in 1984, to make way for the Leopard 2. Because of stringent restrictions, only NATO allies were able to legitimately purchase the vehicle. Although it is still in operation around the world, the German Army discontinued their use of the Leopard 1 in favor of more modern vehicles. It has faced combat in Southeastern Europe, as well as Western Asia.
