The experimental Teledyne Expeditionary failed to pass muster as an airdroppable vehicle due to weight and height issues, but with a low-profile turret later used on the Stryker series and a well-sloped upper glacis, it still performs well in support duties. The entire vehicle is protected with thin, high hardness steel that offers all-around small arms protection. |

History
Created by the United States for the Armored Gun System competition, this prototype light tank was built with the intent of increasing the combat strength of light forces. Development of the hull and chassis took place during the early half of the 1980’s, with final assembly taking place in 1985. Ultimately, it was unable to take top honors at the competition in 1992 and did not enter production. Although the vehicle did not make it past the prototype stage, the turret provided the basis for the M1128 Stryker Turret.
