WWO Wilk is a sibling of Rosomak Wilk XC-8 lvl 10 TD and uses the same Rosomak platform as Wilk XC-8 providing good mobility with alternative turret featuring 105mm gun instead 120mm on Wilk XC-8. Its 105mm gun is able to fire high penetration shells and missiles. With good mobility and its superb firepower in capable hands the younger Wolf can deliver much higher damage to opponents compared with alternatives such as the American Stryker, AMX-10RCR or ST1.

Pros and cons

WWO Wilk (Wolf) is a Premium Tank Destroyer featuring several advantages compared to its main competitors AMX-10RCR, ST1 or Stryker. First one additional armor (for TD in Armored Warfare) protection in form of Slat (Mesh or Cage) Armor increasing protection from side and rear, cage armor can also be obtained gor some of its competitors after upgrade. It works by forcing early explosion of incoming missiles or penetrators,by disrupting the shaped charge of the warhead, or damaging the fusing mechanism preventing detonation, thus significantly reducing absorbed damage and penetration from missiles or shaped penetrators. Although largely ineffective against autocannon or most shells Mesh armor also in addition does provide some protection against HEAT rounds. Despite mesh protection it is to be considered that main Armor is very thin and head to head combat is to be avoided despite solid HP for a TD. Tank Destroyer class is best used for flanking and hit and run tactic, or paired with an MBT supporting the MBTs with rapid firepower while MBT in the spotlight takes the damage, revealing opponents for the Wolf to prey upon. Aside from additional armor this tank predator features superb Cannon with high penetration and ferocius DPM values for lvl 8 vehicle with a single shot gun, accompanied by reliable accuracy, fantastic gun elevation and good depression values compared to competitors, enabling the Wolf to deliver fury and pick off weak armor spots of unsuspecting targets leading its pack. Its high performance Cannon, almost on pair with its 2 levels higher tier sibling, is paired by high mobility, toping AMX-10RCR, ST1 and Stryker not only in gun performance, delivered damage and penetration, additional side and rear protection, but also in top speed and acceleration. High profile allows for good visibility.

Pros

  • Mesh Armor protecting side and rear from missiles
  • very high Damage per Minute for a single shot gun
  • high Penetration
  • very accurate
  • good visibility over battlefield above obstacles
  • fantastic gun elevation and solid gun depression values

Cons

  • high profile
  • low protection against autocannons
  • thin main armor

History

The WWO Wilk is the second Polish vehicle of Armored Warfare named after the ferocious pack animal. It is a fire support variant of the Rosomak, replacing the original IFV turret with the Cockerill CT-CV one, armed with a 105mm gun. A prototype of this vehicle was built and tested in 2012. After passing the tests, it was offered to the Polish Armed Forces but failed to catch its attention despite the excellent trial results as the Polish Armed forces did not want to introduce a 3rd ammunition type, next to its Leopard and T-72s. Thus led to redesign and 120mm cannon variant (XC-8).
