Vehicle lists

Hi. I'm trying to add some data to the wiki pages. On List of Main Battle Tanks , how do you connect the main battle tank data to that page, and how do you select sort orders? I'm trying to add some more main battle tanks to this list.

I'd like to set up pages for the other classes of vehicles, but I'm not familiar enough with wiki logic to make these changes and additions. I'd also like to create new lists, and I'd like to learn how.

Thanks! -Scoaler

It is a DPL generated list. It is based Category:Main Battle Tanks and the {{Vehicle infobox}}. If those two pieces are set, then the vehicle will automatically be added to the list. The code should be able to be copied to another page. Just change out the category if you're making lists for other vehicle types. --Alianin (talk) 16:20, 25 August 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for doing all the lists. I'm trying to match up the data in the AW spreadsheet with what's showing in game. I think that the spreadsheet has raw numbers from the database, and what players see in game is some sort of transformation done procedurally. Also, the data in the spreadsheet is wrong in many cases because the data is from May, and it looks like they've made a lot of balance changes since then in game.
What I'm doing now is copying the information that's showing on the screens in game and typing them into the wiki. I assume that's the most up to date since it's been touched by the devs most recently.
The information I have is current as of the end of July, but being Early Access these numbers are going to change a lot until launch. Thanks for pushing through these additions and updates! Oh, and don't forget to sign your posts with ~~~~. --Alianin T •  C 18:06, 25 August 2015 (UTC)

Can you find some space to put Dealer on the front page? The tech trees revolve around the dealers, so I think they should have a prominent place on the page. Also, with the start of the AW storyline starting with World on Fire, is there someplace we can start putting putting the storyline like adding "Original Storyline" to the AW features section? Also, how do you put in the date/time stamp for your sig here? Is there something automated, or do you do that manually? --Scoaler

If you use the 4 tildes ~~~~ it'll auto add your signature line (name and date/time). I've gone ahead and added a Dealer link on the front page. You could start a Story page or add a Story section to the Armored Warfare page. Do you mean a feature on the main page like where Featured Vehicles is? --Alianin T •  C 19:19, 26 August 2015 (UTC)
Okay, thanks for the info. I'm trying to think of a workable layout for the story. I'll figure something out. Scoaler (talk) 04:30, 27 August 2015 (UTC)

Hey Alianin- Can you look at M113 and LAV-150? I think this is the format I'm generally looking at for vehicles. It has the information I'm interested in when I'm looking at vehicle information in a game like this. What I'd like from you is general feed back in terms of formatting and conformity to wiki styles. If there's something you'd do better, I'd be interested in seeing how you'd do it. Also, in the "Mobility" and "Technology" section, I'm looking for a better looking way of putting those components, rather than just bullet points and text. Thanks a lot!-- Scoaler (talk) 05:10, 14 September 2015 (UTC)

I found the Template:Utility/doc so I think this will work for the miscellaneous modules and I've made the changes to M113 so far. Any input will still be appreciated. Scoaler (talk) 17:57, 14 September 2015 (UTC)
It looks good so far. I'll get logged in this evening and see if there's any tweaks that can be thrown in. --Alianin T •  C 19:17, 16 September 2015 (UTC)
Thanks! I've completed the layout and data for the M60/M1 line and starting on the German Leopard line next, so those have/will have the current layout I'm using.--Scoaler (talk) 20:34, 16 September 2015 (UTC)

Template Change Request

Hey Alianin- On the Template:Vehicle infobox/doc, can you add two items. In the details section under dealer, please add "Reputation" and "Cost" with no default suffix. I'd like to keep rep blank or '-' for premium tanks, and put the price in credits or gold.

Another question is what is the ideal width for the image? Thanks! -- Scoaler (talk) 17:30, 16 September 2015 (UTC)

For the image, the width is defaulted to 250px, so it's ok if the image is larger, it will be scaled. I also added reputation and cost to the infobox. --Alianin T •  C 19:07, 16 September 2015 (UTC)
The reputation isn't showing up in the infobox, unfortunately. I'm working on M1A1 Abrams will be back filling the the rest I've worked on.--Scoaler (talk) 20:34, 16 September 2015 (UTC)
It should be working now. Silly typo. --Alianin T •  C 20:52, 16 September 2015 (UTC)

Feedback on tech tree

Hi Alianin, the PT-76 engine changes you made look great! Only thing I ask is adding a credit price field. I haven't added the price to the data entered because once you buy an item, you can find out the cost. Similarly, you can't find the reputation cost after you've researched it, so I've been slowly and carefully entering those fields as I'm going up a fresh account and filling out the fields as I research each one and then buy the items. I've been working on wolffi's line and not shishkin's so I haven't completed the PT-76 yet. Sorry that the tank wasn't completed yet.--Scoaler (talk) 20:33, 17 September 2015 (UTC)

You beat me to asking you what you thought. =D I added a hover tooltip and then thought it'd look better if we could somewhat duplicate the tech tree, so I started working on that. The latest version of PT-76 has the reputation cost on there. Let me know if there's any other changes or if we can move forward with that. The {{tree}} template is complex, so I'll get the documentation on it up now, I just wanted to make sure it worked first. --Alianin T •  C 20:38, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
If we can get the rest of the game look like the engine tree, it'll look a lot cleaner and cooler. If you look at the M60A3, it's about as complete of a entry as I have right now. The gun is an issue. In the tech tree, there's 2 guns, and the gun doesn't have room for the reputation and credit cost. Also, the M60A3 has both the reputation and the credit costs for everything. I know you were probably choosing the PT-76 for simplicity, but the M60A3 is probably better because it has a few advanced features like two guns. Oh, and do you have any feedback on what I've done so far? I know it probably looks pretty noobish since I don't have the wiki skills you have, but is there anything I can do better? Thanks!! --Scoaler (talk) 20:54, 17 September 2015 (UTC)
The PT-76 looks great! With all the icons you've uploaded and stuff, it's going to look like the garage in game. Since you're working on this, is there any tanks you don't want me to touch? I'm still doing data entry on as many tank as I can get done before open beta starts, but I don't want to mess you up. Thanks for the great work! --Scoaler (talk) 20:34, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
I've been working on the PT-76 because it's only one of two I have unlocked right now. Feel free to keep adding the information, it can be converted at any time. I managed to get images of the tanks, so I'll start uploading those as well. Can you get me a screenshot of the upgrade tree for the M60A3 so I can see what you're talking about? Nothing noobish about what you're doing, you're doing great! Keep it up! --Alianin T •  C 21:14, 18 September 2015 (UTC)
Alianin, you are a magician! The PT-76 looks awesome and all the links to components look great! Way better than I ever imagined. I must not have a good enough imagination... --Scoaler (talk) 00:01, 19 September 2015 (UTC)
No, I just have a bit of experience and luck in coming across something at the right time that will help. =) I've also gone ahead and created a couple boilerplate templates for vehicles and upgrades. This will help with creating new articles. In the top right of the editor there's a drop down. Select either vehicle or upgrade and then click one of the buttons to the right of the drop down to insert the boilerplate text. Remove the comments, tweak the information and done! Let me know if you have any questions. --Alianin T •  C 16:43, 20 September 2015 (UTC)
Thanks Alianin. I'll take a look at them on Monday. I'm hoping to finish all the MBTs very soon, so maybe I can add two vehicles, and convert one to the new format per day til I'm done. I really appreciate what you've done! --Scoaler (talk) 23:56, 20 September 2015 (UTC)
I think there might be a problem here. Unlike other games, equipment and ammunition can have different stats based on the vehicle and version of the weapon it's used on. The equipment name isn't a unique identifier for the stats associated with them. For example, The M60 Patton (Rate of fire 7.5, accuracy 0.17 target time of 3.40) and M60A3 (Rate of fire 7.69, accuracy 0.12 target time of 2.90)both use the 105mm M68 Rifled Cannon, but have different stats. The two vehicles have the some of the same ammunition, with different stats. It gets worse with ammunition. The M60 Patton uses the 105mm M393A1 HEP one set of stats, the M60A3 uses the 105mm M393A1 HEP on the M68 gun with another set of stats, and the M68A1 gun, also on the M68A3, uses the same ammo with different stats. Unfortunately, it gets worse. On the another tank with a completely different gun, OF-40, the 105mm 52 caliber cannon uses the 105mm M393A1 HEP with another set of stats, and the LAV-600 also uses the 105mm M393A1 HEP with yet another gun. Also, this is the case with other objects like (armor, firepower, etc) retrofit slots having different reputation costs depending on vehicle, and other equipment like Smoke Grenades, engines and other technology.
I'm trying to think of solutions, so how about using sections (or whatever the correct term in wikis is) within pages to divide things up? Like Ammo name Page, Vehicle Section, Gun Sub Section, Ammo details. And Gun page, Vehicle Sections, Gun Details with links to the Ammo page, Vehicle Section, Gun Subsection, ammo details?
For me, it's convoluted. Several questions. Does my solution sound viable? Have you dealt with similar situations in any other games? If so, can that solution be applied to this game? Thanks thanks for all your work! --Scoaler (talk) 17:42, 26 September 2015 (UTC)
Hrm, that is a problem. I'll have to brainstorm this. I'm downloading the updates so I can get online and check things out. Your solution might be the best bet, but let me play around with a little and I'll let you know if I come up with anything. --Alianin T •  C 18:13, 26 September 2015 (UTC)
I was trying what I was talking about, but I'm having problems getting infoboxes to stack. Can you help with the layout and style of this page? Thanks! 20mm_DM13_APC --Scoaler (talk) 15:17, 28 September 2015 (UTC)

Main Page Addtions

Now that I have a better grasp of the game, there's several things I'd like added to the front page:

  • Armored Warfare's Story - This will be a section for the the continuing story release.
  • Missions - This is where I'd like to put a list of the PvE missions or operations. These are the AW equivalent of PvE dungeons, so I'm thinking about having guides or walk-throughs that are similar to quests/missions/dungeons in other MMOs.
  • Maps - Since this game has a big PvP component, having a section for the battlefields is important for players to have readily available.

Since you are the magician with layout and making things look pretty, I'll leave how this looks up to you. I don't know about other players or your own experience, but for me and games like world of tanks, the things that I most look for in a wiki are 1) Vehicles, 2) techtrees, 3) maps. Since this game has a PvE component, I'll assume that 4) missions, 5) lore, 6) enemy vehicles (bots/mobs) will be important to players that have an interest in the PvE portion of the game. I think Bots/mobs are a lower priority right now because we have limited information on them, so not much information to create pages. I don't want to make the other information less accessible than it is now, but I'd figure that having this information the first things you see on the main page would add convenience to the user.

If this makes sense, do your magic. If doesn't seem right, let me know your ideas. I've got ideas for these pages already, so if you create links for them on the main page, I'll add content. Thanks! --Scoaler (talk) 18:44, 22 September 2015 (UTC)

I removed Skills since they fall under Crew and I changed PvP/PvE to be Missions and Maps. I also added Story on the end. Let me know if that works or if there's any other changes. --Alianin T •  C 20:36, 24 September 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for taking there of this, Alianin. --Scoaler (talk) 07:55, 26 September 2015 (UTC)

Permission Request

Since you've posted the wiki information on the forums, can I get permissions to patrol the edits? I'm just a little concerned that as more players use the site, there might be a chance for vandalism. Is this something I can get from you, or do I need to ask Fretag? --Scoaler (talk) 21:39, 27 September 2015 (UTC)

Nothing special you need to do. You're all set! Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks again for all your hard work! --Alianin T •  C 21:50, 27 September 2015 (UTC)
Cool! Thanks a lot. --Scoaler (talk) 15:17, 28 September 2015 (UTC)

Vandalism

What's the procedure for dealing with vandals on the wiki? Vehicle was wiped by an unregistered user. What should I do about it? Scoaler (talk) 01:35, 30 November 2015 (UTC)

Revert the vandalism and ban the user. If it's an IP user, only ban them for a max of 2 weeks. If it's a registered user, the length depends on how bad it was. --Alianin T •  C 03:35, 30 November 2015 (UTC)

Vehicle ID Photos

Hey, I was going through the ID Pictures of all the vehicles and adding/updating them until I came across the PT-76 photo you uploaded... Where about's did you get it from because it looks really schmick and I want to do it for all the others. –Preceding unsigned comment was added by StrikeFalcon33 (talkcontribs) at 8:53, 06 May 2016 (UTC). I got them from the devs. I needed to resize the icons (clean up the extra whitespace), but I'll go ahead and upload what I have. --Alianin T •  C 17:31, 7 May 2016 (UTC)
