The M1 Abrams is a Tier 6 progression Main Battle Tank under Sophie Wölfli's dealership.

History[ | ]

Class: Main Battle Tank Developed: 1972-1975 Service: 1979-1990s Vehicles Built: 3273 Operators: USA

The Abrams Main Battle Tank is the current service MBT of the U.S. Army and several other countries. It was developed in the 1970s to replace the aging Patton series in American service. Unlike the failed MBT-70 project, the downfall of which was the widespread use of experimental technologies along with an extremely high price tag, the Abrams was designed to use modern but affordable and reliable components. What made it different from the Patton series was the use of Chobham composite armor and a gas turbine for propulsion, earning it the nickname "Whispering Death".

This is the initial production model, known as the M1. It was produced between 1979 and 1985 in Lima, Ohio and in Detroit, Michigan. This version was still armed with the M68A1 rifled cannon and all the produced vehicles went to the U.S. Army. In 1984, the production was briefly replaced by an interim model called M1IP, before fully switching to the upgraded M1A1. The service M1s were stationed in West Germany and were gradually upgraded in the 1990s to the M1A1 (and later M1A2 standard).

Vehicle Traits[ | ]

  • Armored: This vehicle's armor can withstand a lot of punishment, allowing it to survive even serious firefights.
  • HESH Rounds: This vehicle can fire special Squash Head rounds. These are extremely effective against angled armor that is typical for Soviet tanks.
  • Gas Turbine: This vehicle is powered by a gas turbine, providing smoother acceleration compared to an ordinary diesel.

Like the Challenger 1, the original M1 was among the first to use high-end composites on the frontal arc of the vehicle, offering extensive protection against both HEAT and kinetic charges at the cost of weight, cost, and complexity. Although only intended for frontal assaults, it offers a solid blend of defense, power, and speed on the modern battlefield.
