The FV4201 Chieftain Mk. 2 is a tier 4 Main Battle Tank originating from the United Kingdom, and is sold by Marat Shishkin. It can be unlocked from the T-62, and leads to the FV4201 Chieftain Mk. 10.
Features
- Heavy armor : this vehicle's armor bounces more shots and takes more hits
- High caliber : the high caliber weaponry deals an increased damage
- HESH: can even penetrate armor with large hit angles
Player Recommendations
Slow, poorly armored, and not very accurate, the Chieftain Mk. 2 has few redeeming qualities. The first of these is its gun depression of -12, which is among the best in the game. The second is the ability to fire HESH Ammunition, a variant on normal High Explosive which has increased penetration and module damage. The Chieftain Mk. 2 is thus relegated to a hull down sniper and hill poker. Its mediocre turret armor and gun depression will allow it to focus on enemies without taking return fire in the weaker armored sections, and its HESH rounds can do significant frontal damage to other hull down vehicles attempting to engage in a sniper battle.
Pros and Cons
Pros
- HESH rounds allow for consistent damage into the front of heavily armored targets
- Excellent gun depression
- Relatively large health pool
- Good alpha damage
Cons
- Worst acceleration of any vehicle in the game
- Poor mobility
- Very large and tall target
Upgrade Suggestions
Upgrading to the L60 Mk. 4A-2 Diesel Engine will improve the otherwise dismal speed of the Chieftain Mk. 2, while the Improved Laser Rangefinder and Improved Ready Racks will increase firepower, allowing the tank to keep enemies at bay by punishing vehicles attempting to make a push.
Retrofit Suggestions
- Improved Gun Breech
- Air Induction Precleaner
- Improved Filter Systems
- Advanced Muzzle Reference System
Commander and Crew Skill Suggestions
- Commander: Ioannis Sanna, for increasing accuracy, turret traverse, and aim time, as well as the Firestarter ability mixing well with the HESH rounds.
- Driver: Off-Road Driving, Spin to Win
- Gunner: Quick Draw, Sharpshooter
- Loader: Rapid Fire, Explosive Shells

While poorly armored overall compared to its peers, when put into a hull down position its turret can protect against heavy incoming fire. |

History
Class: Main Battle Tank
Developed: 1958-1963
Service: 1963-1995 in the United Kingdom, ongoing elsewhere
Vehicles Built: cca 2200
Operators: United Kingdom, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Oman and Kuwait
Developed by Great Britain as a successor to the Centurion, this main battle tank was created as a response to the ever-increasing penetration capability of Soviet armor-piercing rounds. With the production starting in the 1960s and ending in 1978, several hundred units were built for the British and export markets. The Chieftain remained in service until 1995 and saw combat primarily in the Middle East, albeit not in British hands. Iran made extensive use of this MBT, even though the results were debatable due to the poor training of Iranian troops. However, during its heyday, the vehicle was considered to be the world's most powerful tank until it was dethroned by the Leopard 2 during the 1980s.
The Chieftain Mk.2 was the initial production variant of this MBT. It was the first truly mass-produced early variant of the Chieftain MBT with around 500 built from the early 1960s. Two of these tanks were tested by the Israelis but the deal collapsed following the rise of anti-Israeli sentiments in Britain.
